“From nil to peak, from attack to sustain, from duration to release, from sustain to zero”, 2018

Being based at the Sitterwerk library you might experience isolation while global time passes by. You can see that by the movement of the clouds in the sky or while observing the base from the water tower. Sound is another direct indicator to notify progression.

Sound synthesis employ an envelope generator that controls a sound's parameters at any point in its duration. This can be done in so called ADSR envelope, which may be applied to overall amplitude control. Attack time is the time taken for initial run-up of level from nil to peak, beginning when the key is first pressed. Decay time is the time taken for the subsequent run down from the attack level to the designated sustain level. Sustain level is the level during the main sequence of the sound's duration, until the key is released. Release time is the time taken for the level to decay from the sustain level to zero after the key is released.

You hear people and cars passing by, without these observable activities what you perceive is just an image with traces. Google Maps is a rather fixed image of a landscape, a capture of the real that changes over time taken from above. Progression can only be experienced being on the base ground amongst the movement. The following XYZ captures try to give an impression of the psychical Cartesian movement experienced during the research residency at Sitterwerk, Sankt Gallen. It is preserved on the web and finds its accessibility via Google Earth View: TOWER. Trace, 2018.
